MEMORANDUM

TO:                      ENC2210 Students
FROM:                Zach Whalen, Instructor
DATE:                 4 October 2002
SUBJECT:           Four Oaks case study assignment

This memo is to answer several of the questions you have been asking me regarding the Four Oaks assignment as you prepare for the workshop on Monday.

Content

Your job is to make a recommendation to City Council.  You will be recommending a course of action to solve both the noise and the public relations problem based on data you have gathered in the acoustical study as well as other information you may invent.

“Draft an informal recommendation report in letter format to the City Council for Crompton’s review and signature. . . Identify the multiple audiences for the report and their primary concerns.  With those concerns and the audience relationships in mind, develop suggestions for a program that you believe Crompton would approve for submitting to the Council.”

Heading/Address/Salutation:

The case study itself includes most of this information including the Four Oaks letterhead and return address and the city council address.  Note also that the salutation is to “City Council Members:” The closing will be Dale Crompton’s signature followed by DC/your initials.

The report should be about 3 - 4 pages long in full block letter format–i.e., Four Oaks letterhead centered, everything else left justified.  In the body of the letter, you may indent or center text as necessary, but everything else should be left-justified.

Workshopping:
