SUBJECT: Heated Sidewalk assignment
As you gather your thoughts and form your opinions about what to do in the heated sidewalk case, you are probably already wondering about what it is that you will actually produce to turn in. This memo is to inform you of what I am expecting.
(Please note that the writing workshop for this assignment will be on Monday, October 21, so make sure you are present).
There are two components to this assignment:
1. A letter on Micheal’s and Greenwall letterhead addressed to Eastern Wisconsin University encouraging the University that the Heated Sidewalk product is safe and ready for purchase.
OR
An intra-office memo to Jason Monroe explaining why you cannot
(or will not) write the
letter as requested.
OR
Another option of your own determination which I have previously
approved.
AND
2. A memo addressed to me (Zach Whalen) explaining your ethical choice.
In the memo you will write to me, I expect you to include the following:
• A position statement (for example, “I feel that I should write the
letter as assigned because . . .”).
• A rhetorical analysis of the document you produce explaining how
you crafted your document to reflect with your ethical choice. (i.e. explain
how you chose your words or shaped your ethos to achieve the desired effect
of your document.)
• An audience analysis of the intended recipient of this letter.
For example, consider that both Jason Monroe and Robert Cruzner will review
any letter that goes to EWU, and explain to me how your document responds
to these audiences.
• A consideration of the consequences of your document both in the
best and worst-case scenario.
Both the memo to and the letter to EWU (or equivalent) should be about 1 page. I will be grading for grammar and presentation as usual, but I will also pay particular attention to tone, clarity., and concision.
