Video Game ListChoose your "blog" video game from this list. If you have other games you'd like to suggest, ask me first. The key is that they loosely connect to the themes of the class (spatiality/temporality, getting lost, changing space). Most first- or third- person shooter titles will work, as will any games of the "survival-horror" variety. Keep in mind that each posting should be 250 (well-written) words. You can also check my blog which I'll post to periodically at http://www.ZachsGameBlog.blogspot.com. I'm playing through Eternal Darkness currently, and I'll post entries along the lines of what Iwant you to do. How much of playing your game relies on exploring a confusing "map"? When is your game "frustrating" or difficult to play? Have you gotten stuck at any point for a long time? If your game is scary, how does it try to scare you? Does it work the same way as a horror movie? How does the "story" of your game unfold differently than a typical film's story, if at all? Does the space you move through seem consistent or believable? Why or why not? I'll add some more questions later, but I think you can get the idea. These are just ideas, you could write on a variety of topics, especially some of the problems raised by Lev Manovich (like database v. narrative v. space) and others we'll read later. |
